Joe Pilates rarely taught group classes, and then only to teachers and dancers. He believed learning his work was worthwhile, and best done by a focused, motivated student. Once you learned the basics, you were on your own, with general supervision by whomever was watching the studio floor or working with another student.
However, classes allow us to make Pilates accessible to more students – at The Pilates School, that means 4; each in your own personal Pilates Pod, a minimum 12’ from your neighbor. This small class allows for personal attention and corrections specific to your needs, while still providing progress and flow for all students. Our classes are balanced by ability and require a monthly and same class time commitment. That time is yours until you change it, and class happens even if you’re alone. We do not offer drop-in classes in-studio but have a free virtual mat drop-in class 5 days per week.
We teach the whole Contrology Method (Joe’s name), using all the equipment and the order that grows as you do. As you get stronger, we add to your challenges – not with more resistance or reps, but by adding exercises to the order. It is our mission to help you consistently progress in strength, flexibility, knowledge of Joe’s amazing method and confidence in your own ability!
Pretty self-explanatory
You start here if you’ve never done Pilates, have minimal experience or are de-conditioned. You learn the basics behind Joe’s thinking (stability before mobility), learn the beginning mat and reformer orders, and meet some of the other equipment. Each lesson contains the same concepts and order – this is how we measure progress – but we use equipment and body position (lying, sitting, standing, hanging) to amplify the concept and challenge.
Now you’ve got the basics
Level 2 is where most Pilates practitioners spend their workout life – and with 15 major and minor pieces of equipment, and hundreds of challenging progressions and variations, we are never bored! As in Level 1, we use the order to learn and track progress, adding tempo, rhythm, and more exercises to further our personal progress – always mindful of the individual needs of the student.
Currently this is appointment only; we’ll be adding Level 3 classes as our current Level 1 & 2 classes progress.
This solo lesson is your initiation to The Pilates School and is required for all new in-studio students, no matter your ability. You move, we watch, we chat and then decide together the next steps forward.
